Hi

I wonder if someone could advise me..I have today received a birth certificate that states TWO names on the mothers maiden name. Emily Blackwell formerly Gibson Late Davis. Could someone please explain to me what this means I have never had this on a cert before.

Many thanks

Caroline

It mean she was married to a Davis before.

Gibson is her maiden name.

Emily DAVIS was a maiden name.
She married Mr GIBSON.

She probably married Mr BLACKWELL as Emily GIBSON.

I did wonder if that was the case! Thank you so much!

I have the marriage cert to Mr Blackwell and it only mentions Gibson nothing of Davis but it has her Father as "Griffiths" very confusing!

She probably started out as Emily Griffiths then...or he just might have been a stepfather.

I have a cert like that...Took me ages to sort out that there was a marriage in between Dad's name and the name she maried in, as she was past childbearing so no clues there.

I have just found a marriage to a John Gibson and also on the 1871 census I have located them. His occupation was "File Cutter" This is also the occupation of Samuel Blackwell so I think I can say I am on the right track. What do you think?
