This still happens today - some friends of mine registered their baby's name shortly after the birth, then many months later decided they didn't like the name they'd chosen and so changed it! They said as long as it was done within the first year, it was okay. Presumably this little mite will have some confusion if she ever tries to look up her own birth certificate!

You omitted to say that there is a cross reference "S 30"

A child can be re-registered if the parents marry or if the fathers details were not on the original registration and were added later. This means that birth entries can and do appear twice. As there is no actual time limit for the re-registration process this can even be years after the birth.
Re-registration is the usual reason why births appear twice.

It is possible that birth was registered on the last day of June & got entered again on the 1st of July. That would mean they would be in different quarters.

could anyone help me on this one please !
i have a kathleen m booth mmn horner born tadcaster 1929 in the 2nd qtr
. while searching for another family booth member i came accross her again born in the 3rd qtr a year later had a look in the death section to make sure the first kathleen hadnt died but she wasn't there .just wondered as to why they registered her twice could anyone shed any light on this for me please ?
