Although rules were introduced so that unmarried parents both had to be present at the registration if the father was named, there aren't rules to prevent him being named on a subsequent marriage certificate.

As far as I know, vicars were only too pleased to record an unwed father, so it is worth looking at baptism records.
Sometimes you will be lucky and an illegitimate child's father will be named there.

Did her mother marry at a later date and is the name of the man she married the same as that on the marriage cert for your GGMx2?

Hayley, she was illegitimate. The fathers name on the marriage cert may be one she has made up due to embarrassment or it may be she found out his name at a later date.

I have my great great grandmothers birth certificate and their is no father on their and her mothers surname was the same as hers, also her marrige certificate says who her father was but that he was deceased, please could anybody tell me why he isnt on her birth certificate?
