Hi, sorry Suzanne I only know that who she married was known as "Sam" so I think his name would have been either Sam or Samuel.

They were born in Loughborough, Alfred worked in a hotel in Halifax and then came back to Leicester after he married. The rest of his family stayed in Loughborough.

Hi Reg,

I haven't contacted either Leicestershire or Loughborough newspapers yet as I have only just found this out and was hoping to find the story online.
If I don't have any luck, I'll email them and see if they could help,

Thanks,

Vicky

Have you tried contacting the local newspaper in the area?

Hi, I have a gt gt aunt who was born in 1886 called Emma Tilley. She was the twin sister of my gt granddad Alfred Tilley.

I have learned recently through my aunt on that side, that when she was an old lady, her nightdress caught fire and she ran into the street and apparently looked like a "ball of fire". I don't think she died in the fire, she died shortly after from her injuries, and my aunt remembers it was in the paper at the time.

The problem is nobody seems to know when it happened, as my dad's siblings don't know when it happened I'm think it must have been in the 50's or early 60's when the eldest children were still small.

All I know is that Emma had been married to somebody called Sam/Samuel so I don't know a last name and that she lived in Loughborough, Leicestershire.

If anybody has any ideas or can help me find this story, I would be really grateful,

Thanks

Vicky
