If you get in touch with GR they should be able to correct this.

I had this problem before, and have it again now. I wrote to GR last time and it was changed in next to no time. Hopefully it will be this time too. It's worth a try Chec anyway.

Best wishes
Pam

I too have given up on asking GR to do this, they never reply to any of my requests

You need to put the tree on your own family tree program, and fix it there.

You can change the "home person" with the PAF program, but not with FTM 2006. Don't know about the other programs.

Since I posted yesterday I've just downloaded PAF and done a gedcom file from my main tree in Ancestry I was surprised to see who the home person was when i opened the file up it was still that obscure rellie I can't understand why as the home person in my tree in Ancestry as aways been my mother anyhow I sorted the problem out in PAF but before I downloaded again into my genes tree I thought I'd have a look at it and WOW its been put right so thanks to the GENES TEAM its took a long time but you got there in the end.So now I need to sort Ancestry out.

Who is "me" in this Tree (change) (set to none)

Hello Jim
Have just seen your reply so have gone into Ancestry and took the home person out both are now saying not selected. I'll do another gedcom file and see how it goes I'm just chuffed to be able to go into my genes tree and see it how it should be
Thanks Carol

I'm trying this PAF idea now and will report back whether it works for me or not. Fingers crossed!

Al M Report 20 Jan 2008 16:19

Unfortunately PAF idea did not work for me. It changed the Home person, but not to who it is meant to be, just to another random relative. Genes admins if you are reading please note that this is REALLY ANNOYING. I am going to leave Genes over it now, as I appear to have no means of fixing this, they ignore my support requests and it is too frustrating. I keep getting emails from everyone I share my tree out to, totally confused about who I am because of this stupid bug.

You can change the home person in PAF quite easily.

Go to the Tools menu and click on Preferences. Then click on the File tab. Where it says "RIN of home person on file open" click on Search, then click on Individual List. This lists all the people in your tree. Click on the name of the person you want your tree to start with, and hit OK.

To check that you've done it right, click on the big red arrow in the row of icons at the top of the page. This takes you immediately to the Home Person you've chosen.

Hi Mary,

Thanks for your help, but I have gone this all correctly in PAF. It is just when I then upload to Genes it picks another person as the Home Person.

I have the Home Person correct in Ancestry, FTM, MyHeritage.com, Tribal Pages and now PAF, but every time I upload a gedcom to this site it just picks a different random person and makes that the Home Person. I have 2 accounts paid for with Genes (because I am researching 2 different trees) and I cannot get any reply from their support team about this despite contacting them several times over the last few months.

I think this must be a bug as literally every time I upload the gedcom it picks a different person as Home Person, there is no logic to it

Thelma Report 20 Jan 2008 16:41

I think if the mistake is already on your Genes tree then every time you upload it will still be there.
Delete the tree before you upload.

Al M Report 20 Jan 2008 16:58

Have just tried deleting my tree, then uploading gedcom, but unfortunately Genes is still just picking a random distant rellie and making that Home Person. Thank for the idea anyway Jim.

I had exactly the same problem as you have.......................GR changed it at my request.
Contact them to ask them to change it for you.

Good luck

Thanks Kitty, but I have already asked approx once per week for last 3 months. What is the point of keep asking? I'm glad you got a response, but no everyone is so lucky.
