Sorry for the distraction, Cathy, but could someone tell me what a "settlement certificate" is? |

Yes, the first baby was often born at the maternal grans home. When you think how hazardous child birth was - no doubt the poor girls wanted to have mum with them, particularly the first time. |

Maybe Sarah was originally from Thriplow and went home to have her baby - many did then. |

Dont know about Cambridge Cathy, you could have a google, I believe Cambridge FHS are supposed to be very active. When I was looking for a settlement cert I emailed Norfolk RO with the names and almost immediately back came an email giving me the information! I think they charged me a couple of quid to photocopy it and send it to me. It was quite helpful as it placed my GGPx4 in 1760 without any kids which gave me a pointer |

Thanks Heather. I have just ordered a couple more parish registers to see if i can find the parents and the parish. I know Charles born 1753 ended up in Whittlesford as i have those PR's etc. The mother Sarah didnt seem to stay in Thriplow as there is no remarriage for her or burial and there is a possible burial for her in Whittlesford in 1797, so maybe she went there with her son. Will there be anything online for settlement certificates or will i have to get in touch with Cambridge RO |

Well it does mean after the death so I would think Charles probably died prior to his birth. Possibly you need to search for a settlement certificate for the Nunns? |
