Joan

You are going to have to be very very careful in tracing up George.

All these George Challis' were married in Risbrouhg, the registration distrcit that includes Wickhambrook, during the period of your George's life. These are all from www.freebmd.org.uk .... a free site that you can look at yourself

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page

Marriages Sep 1858 (>99%)

Challis George Risbridge 4a 534
Cooper Robert Risbridge 4a 534
Walladge Sarah Risbridge 4a 534
Wallage Sarah Risbridge 4a 534
Wright Harriet Risbridge 4a 534

Marriages Mar 1862 (>99%)

Challis George Risbridge 4a 435
Edgley Ann Risbridge 4a 435

Marriages Dec 1866 (>99%)

Challis George Risbridge 4a 837

Marriages Jun 1868 (>99%)

Challis George Risbridge 4a 556

Marriages Sep 1884 (>99%)

Challis George Risbridge 4a 758
Challis George Risbridge 4a 759

Marriages Dec 1885 (>99%)

Challis George Risbridge 4a 962

All this means is that there was more than one George Challis living in the registration district during the relevant period.

I am curious about this one ........ I think I have foudn that Robert Cooper married Harriet Wright, which means this George Challis married Sarah Wallage

The reaosn I am curious is that oon the 1861 Census, your George is living with his parents, and there is a baby Sarah shown as being daughter of William & Mary, ie George's sister

1861 Census

Name: George Challis

Everyone else is shown as born in Wickhambrook, except for the baby. Now, Mary is not too old to have a child, but ......

Potty Report 8 Feb 2008 19:08

Hi Joan

yes, when you see a reply on your thread it has come from the person named at the top left.

You obviously know how to post a reply to your thread 'cos you have done it above. To reply directly to the person posting, click on their name. After you have typed your message and sent it, they will be advised by Genes that they have a PM and will be able to pick it up.

It is probably better not to use PMs if you are looking for help - if everything found is posted on the one thread, everybody can see what info has been found.

Good luck with your searching.

Hello there...not sure if I am replying to Mick from the Bush or someone called Joan. Still trying to get my head round this system. Am I correct in assuming that when I see a reply on my Threads page that it has been sent from the person named at the top left hand side (name is underlined) just before the message starts????!

Anyway, who ever you are, thanks a lot for the information you have sent me. I am sure that the marriage information is correct as I have information of someone else who is a far flung relative and the names do seem to "tie up".

Honestly, when I retired I thought I had finished with stress, but this new hobby of mine is certainly not stress free. I feel that I am on a permanent training course at work!!!!!! But alll you helpful "trainers" out there are doing a wonderful job with this newcomer! Thanks a lot.

Regards....Joan.

Hello Mick, Thank you for replying, but unfortunately, as I have only just recently started researching my family tree I am not familiar with "terminology/jargon" yet and don't understand what your reply means!!!? However I am sure you will put me straight and I look forward to hearing from you again. Regards. Joan

Joan Report 17 Jan 2008 21:24

GEORGE CHALLIS - born c 1841 in Wickambrook. Married Ann Challis (nee Edgley) who was born 24.5.41 also in Wickhambrook.
She is believed to have died December 1884.

George remarried again (don't know who to).

He died soon afterwards (but not sure how soon - could be months or years!). However, I cannot find him on the 1891 census so the period I am looking at re his death is between 1884 and 1891.
Cannot find him.....can anyone help????

Thanks, Joan.
