Possible 1940s Still-birth

Hi

I'm trying to find out whether my paternal grandparents really did have a daughter in the late 1940s or early 50s (must have been after 1946). I have looked for a birth and a death but have found nothing, would it be possible for them not to have registered her, if she was stillborn, at this time?

Thanks, any suggestions appreciated,

Clare
