Can anyone tell me please, if the name John would have been short for Jonathan or if a Johnathan could be also named John. I know in modern times Jonathan can be known as Jon (no 'H') but I am trying to clarrify a name and relationship in 1839 without the benfits of a census to help me out. I have a Jonathan in East Dereham and a John in Castle Acre possibly the same man. Both were publicans around the same time. |
