I think you will find that the name is originally Irish

ScotlandsPeople only goes to 1906 for births after that you need to contact the Scottish General Register Office

Hi Angela,

Thanks for the help. The relation concerned is JAMES SHALVEY born around June 1919 (we think) in Edinburgh. I have been told its a very rare surname, so that might help.
If it's not too much trouble could you do a quick check for me?

I have been asked to trace a friends family in Scotland. Does anyone know of good websites to use? Similar to this one. Doing a quick Google check I have been unable to find any sites like familyrelatives.com or findmypast.com that have birth, marriage, death and census records for Scotland. Am I just looking in the wrong place?
Does Ancestry.com cover Scotland?
Any help would be greatly appricated.
