I've just been reading the WWl Service Record of a possible relation.

In 1908 (aged 18) this man from Clerkenwell, London (occupation -farm labourer!) enlisted at Cork (I presume S.Ireland) into the Durham Light Infantry.

I can't figure this out! - a farm labourer in London? He enlisted in Cork - could he have been a 'black & tan'? Should there be a connection with Durham?

Any military experts out there - I'd appreciate your comments.
