Hi Malcolm,
Thanks for the look ups. I am on Ancestry, and came across both of those, that you found. But couldn't find that definate connection. People seem to change their names to suit themselves. I'll try putting the asterix in Bloom and see what comes up.
Thanks everyone for your help. Ann

I presume this is the Henry you'll find in 1881:
Dwelling: 105 Hanbury St Census Place: Mile End New Town, London, Middlesex, England Source: FHL Film 1341095 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 0440 Folio 39 Page 4 Marr Age Sex Birthplace Simon BLOOM M 32 M Russia Rel: Head Occ: Tailor Pauline BLOOM M 32 F Russia Rel: Wife Leah BLOOM 10 F Whitechapel, Middlesex, England Rel: Daur Occ: Scholar Hannah BLOOM 8 F Whitechapel, Middlesex, England Rel: Daur Occ: Scholar Henry BLOOM 6 M Whitechapel, Middlesex, England Rel: Son Occ: Scholar Harris BLOOM 3 M Whitechapel, Middlesex, England Rel: Son Occ: Scholar Nelly BLOOM 1 F Whitechapel, Middlesex, England Rel: Daur
I also looked up William in 1881, and found:
Dwelling: 20 Mansell Street Census Place: St Botolph Aldgate, London, Middlesex, England Source: FHL Film 1341080 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 0369 Folio 70 Page 30 Marr Age Sex Birthplace William BLOOM M 40 M Barton, Lincoln, England Rel: Head Occ: Tailor Ellen R. BLOOM M 44 F Barton, Lincoln, England Rel: Wife Occ: Tailor Wife Frances E. BLOOM U 15 F London City, London, Middlesex, England Rel: Dau Thomas W. BLOOM 14 M St Georges E, Middlesex, England Rel: Son Occ: Scholar Alfred J. G. BLOOM 12 M St Georges E, Middlesex, England Rel: Son Occ: Scholar Alice Maria BLOOM 6 F St Georges E, Middlesex, England Rel: Dau Occ: Scholar Ellen R. BLOOM 2 F London City Aldgate, London, Middlesex, England Rel: Dau
If this is William, then where's Ernest Henry and Mary Ann, and how come everyone but William has a mid-name? (NB Barton upon Humber is 10km upstream of Hull).
Blackfriars Bridge is 3 km upstream from Tower Bridge, and Mansell St is effectively an on ramp to Tower Bge. 600m N of Mansell St is Spitalfields Market = the W end of Hanbury St. So neither of these seem close enough to Blackfriars (although William clearly moved around the time Ernie was born), nor very satisfactory all round.
If you've got access to Ancestry, did you try looing up Bl*m and Bl*me.

Hi Blossom ,
No I don't,
Only the father's name was on Ernest's Marriage Cert. which an uncle had sent for.
This dear old Uncle, he's well into his 70's and does all his findings on foot, going from Devon to London for mini holidays, and searching the records.
Having by chance come across him a couple of months ago while looking for another rellie, so have managed to save his legs by looking on Genes and Ancestry.
I've just found a possibility on Ancestry:-
Henry Bloom b Apr-Jun 1875 Mile End (ref 1c 500)
I think I'll take a chance and send for the Birth Cert.

Just another note:- Ernest Bloon was married to Mary Ann Ferguson Sep 1898 Islington.

Hi Reg,
He was according to the 1901 census:-
Ernest Henry Bloom b1877 Blackfriars, London ----Bacon Dryer Wife Mary A Bloom b1877,St Lukes, London Daughter Lilian R Bloom b1899 Edmonton, London
I have his British Army WW1 Pension Record 1914-1920
He is registered as Ernest Henry Bloom b1877 age 39 dated 17 June 1916. Address 18 Bracklyn St Hoxton----Bacon Dryer.
His fathers name is William Henry Bloom and was a Tailor in London whether he was born there I don't know.( this I got from an Uncle who himself is trying his end to find out about the Blooms.
I don't know of any siblings for Ernest. He seems not to exist before 1901.
I've tried looking for HENRY also BLUME.
Any help would be wonderful
Thanks Ann

Does anyone know another name for Ernest, apart from Ernie. Can't find my Ernest before 1901 census, but know he has to be out there. Thanks
