Hi I wonder if someone can answer this question for me? On the list of birth records that I have been looking at I have found one of my aunts. Alongside the volume and reference numbers there is another letter - a- in brackets. does anyone know what this means? |

I always understood that records that have (a) after the page number signify that an amendment has been made to the original record. |

My understanding is that if there were late arrivals at the GRO from the register offices, they were indexed under a,b,c etc. |
