Do you know if your ancestor was a member of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (many merchant seamen were). also do you know if he was from Wales and when he died if you have any more info he may be the Frank Legg commemorated on the Tower Hill memorial, Just in case I have pm'd you the CWGC details for a merchant seaman Frank Legg |

Don't worry about being rude :) I knew they were general service medals, not for special things he'd done. |

The medals you mention are common for those who served in the war (I don't mean to be rude by the way they simply recognise the service not any particular act). The term is bosun and would have meant that to a certain degree he would have controlled the work of the other seamen onboard. Do you know which vessel he served on and when he died. The scroll from the 'King' suggests something of significance worth further investigation |
