Has anyone come across a family that seems to of regularly ignored registering with the BMD and census takers.
I have the birth certificate for Alfred William Osborne born in 1903 to Thomas Osborne and Charlotte/Lottie nee Ward born in North Walsham. From the info my nanna can remember {he was her father} he was the youngest of 4 children with sisters called Mary, May and Kathleen. I found both Thomas's and Charlotte's deaths and their given ages at death means they were both born c1869. I have found a Thomas Osborne b1869 in North Walsham and a Charlotte Ward b1869 in Roughton both of these people disappear after the 1881 census {no obvious death or marriages} but I can't find their marriage or the registration of any of their daughters

Which of these is your Alfred?

Are you sure you have the correct birth certificate?

Have you looked at the complete BMD indexes and not just freeBMD, which isn't complete?

Thanks for your replies-
I have search the BMD on the genealogist page by page with no luck.
I have the birth certificate for the Alfred born in Smallburgh as my Nanna knew the family was from North Walsham.
I haven't checked on his marriage cert for his father name, I had a quick look and couldn't find it and my Nanna's mother was on her 3rd marriage by this time {she had already been widowed twice} and we are unsure what name she might of married under.

Abigail

Have just checked my CD of marriages for Norfolk 1801-1837.

There is a marriage of John Osborn & Ann Dye on 14/4/1816 in North Walsham. This is the only Osborn(e) on the CD married in North Walsham and may be connected to your family when you get back that far!

Good Luck
Dee

Abigail,

Couldn't see any female Osborn(e)s married in North Walsham.

Checked for Wards (there are hundreds of them in Norfolk between 1801 & 1837).

I found the following 4 males married in Roughton (no females - must have married in their spouse's parish). There are a few Wards married in North Walsham too.

James Ward & Sarah Holman 15/11/1834 Roughton

John Ward & Emily Gray 29/1/1837 Roughton

Robert Ward & Elizabeth Wright 30/11/1834 Roughton

William Ward & Mary Catton 26/7/1831 Roughton.

Best Wishes
Dee
