Hi there. Thought you might like to know that my mother's uncle was baptised Welcome.
Apparently, Uncle Welcome was the first boy to arrive in the family after 6 girls! A welcome relief for his father I should think!
Does anyone know how unusual this first name is?

Hi,
There is a road named Beulah Road in Cardiff. Quite posh as well.

Taken from a google search

"The girl's name Beulah \be(u)-lah\ is pronounced BYOO-lah. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "bride". Biblical: a name symbolic of the heavenly Zion. Used to refer to Israel, and in John Bunyan's "The Pilgrim's Progress", Beulah is the promised land. First became used as a girl's name in the late 16th century. References to "Beulah land" appear in American spirituals. The name was made famous by Mae West's instruction to her maidservant: "Beulah, peel me a grape". American actress Beulah Bondi.

Beulah has 5 variant forms: Beaulah, Beula, Bewlah, Bulah and Byulah."

She is probably delighted to have a name which is unusual........................rather than be one of the masses.

I have heard of it but never known anyone with the name.
I just did a search on freebmd site and there are births registered from 1838 to 1923 so it's been around some time.

Found this name in BMD index... have a feeling it could of been mistranscribed.

Beulah Rachel Warwick.

What could Beulah stand for?
