When I find a marriage date for a hard to find relative and check who else is on the same page, there is never the spouses name I am searching for, does that mean that this is definately the wrong relly, do they always show up on the same page, (using ancestry site),?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 24 Nov 2007 11:39

Both people in a marriage are listed on one page.

If you don't find a 'match'......either the name you have found is not your relation, or the spouse is not who you thought it would be...........

Sometimes the surnames are different if the wife was previously married and you are searching using a later child's birth information, ...which shows maiden name but might not record a previous married name...although it should in theory.

It is possible that they didn't marry............

Did they have children together?

If so, do you know any details?

Hi Reggiie

Yes they had 4 or 5 children, but cant find the births for these either, this branch of the family are so hard to find any solid details for!

The only son was William Albert Henry Farrington but this is the one that Ellen had before marriage, I have found entries for him, as

Albert Roberts
William Albert Roberts
William Farrington

Even on the same page of his marriage there are two men, Albert Roberts and William Farrington, two ladies both with surname Bew

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 24 Nov 2007 12:19

Spouse's Surname: Roberts
District: Wrexham (1837-1974)

This could be the marriage but wrong first name for bride!

Marriages Mar 1908
FARRINGTON George Stoke T. 6b 232
Roberts Maud Stoke T. 6b 232

I think Stoke T is in Staffordshire. Staffordshire is which is where Hilda's husband came from. Bit of a loose connection though.

Thanks Gwyneth no I had not got that info, thanks also Selena I think that is Georges birth I wish I could find more info on him, there is an entry in 1881 census for a George Farington and family, but I know that George had a brother called Stanley and there is no mention of a Stanley. Also no mention of other family memebers later. These two people are enigmas.

Angela , I use FreeBMD for births etc

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

I don't put in the exact details, I am very flexible about the years i.e. 1900 - 1920. I also tick the box for phonetic spelling sometimes.

I don't much use the district but do try to use the county.

Have a play around,

I use www.familysearch.org (another free site) for the 1881 census and the IGI.
