BMD Reference Numbers - Anyone Know Please

Please can anyone tell me is there any way you can tell what the area is by the volume number on the BMDs, and also what does the page number mean. |

Thanks for that Reg, just been on Genuki. Realised that the place is on the BMD but found something else on Genuki, registration districts for Manchester and other places,which I was wondering about too, so thanks again for the pointer. |

Oh I see, well the ref wont really help then will it - it will be a case of buying the cert - or finding them at a very young age on the census and looking at the address on the image. |

The numbers do help. I'm a member of the Guild of One Name Studies and they are gradually building up info on which church people married in. The refs do change with each church. It's a slow process as ref numbers need to be matched against known info. I expect that one day it may be made available to a wider audience. |
