Sampson gilmore(possibly without the p)census records give the p but his death cert 1865 doesnt.and eliza morgan .Is this too early for marriage certificates. What info would a cert give and if too early what info can i find and where do i look .I am very keen to establish elizas parentage?

Judging by the 1851 census this is the nearest christening showing.
ELIZABETH MORGAN - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 23 FEB 1817 Fishguard, Pembroke, Wales

Hi Julian

The marriage is shown on the IGI (see below), this is a submitted entry which means be cautious, but as it fits with what you already knew I would imagine it's correct. It does have a reference number, I am no expert on this but I am sure somebody can guide you with how you use the reference number.

thanks jim but my copy of1851 census defintely says she is 38 and 1861 that she is 48 and the name given is Eliza in both instances.I dont think this the same woman you have found but will check it out just in case.i still believe she is born 1812 or 1813.

There are quite a few entries for Eliza Morgan born around those years and many are submitted entries.

May I suggest that you get in touch with Pembrokeshire Records Office at...

http://www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/content.asp?parent_directory_id=646&id=6125&pagetype=&keyword=

There is an email contact address...

If you give them the marriage details they may do a look up for you...perhaps the parish record may give you a clue.

It can be a hit or a miss when contacting record offices...many will not do look ups or they will at a cost.

I have been lucky on many occasions or perhaps I have learnt the art of grovelling lol.

Julian,

If you have no luck with Linda's suggestion, there is a thread at the top of this message board called "An IGI tutorial". Have a read, it tells you how to use the reference numbers (I should have said Batch numbers).

The IGI has no OPR marriage extracts for Pembroke. However, the Welsh National Library does have an online search of marriage bonds. They also hold all the OPRs including non-conformists, but you might have to go to Aberyswyth. I don't know anything about Welsh records, nor do I know exactly what bonds are.

FYI their site is: http://isys.llgc.org.uk/
