Hi Brenda, in those days a birth certificate was not required to prove the age. It technically would have been illegal, but if nothing was said, then so be it. |

I have a cert for grt grandads bro , he was George Dartnell but its down as George Dartner. his bride was an Etterley but shes down as Hetreley. both dads names & professions tho confirm its the right couple and as neither could read or write . they made their marks, then they wouldnt have known it was wrong. |

Yes but his new wife could write and she didn't see it so maybe she could only write her name and not able to read. |

As you say, I would assume it is just an error by whoever was filling in the register, and as he was illiterate then wouldn't have realised there was a mistake before he made his mark. |

Sent for g grandparents marriage cert. It is the correct one but name of g grandfather is Edward in name /surname column (this is correct) but in the this marriage solemnized between us his name is Joseph which is his fathers name. |
