Just realised he was listed on the 1901 census as occupation railway painter reservist, so could the John J Lewis you found be the one?

There is a John J Lewis on Ancestry WW1 Pensions but he is in the Labour Corp and was unfit for service so not the right one.

You can order and look at film on WW1 Service Records at your local Church of the Latter Day Saints, but I don't know how you go about it. Someone else may be able to tell you.

No, you may find a good bit on that sort of era. If you need a reliable and reasonable military researcher for Kew, I can give you a really good one.

His service records, if they survive, would be at National Archives, Kew. You would have to go there, or get someone to go for you I can recommend a researcher, if you want to follow this up.

The only information i have about my gt grandfather is that he was named John J Lewis and was in the 2nd Battalion Staffordshire Regiment and in 1891 they were based at Curragh Camp Kildare. I also know he was born about 1868. Can anyone give me any help or advice I have tried Staffordshire Regiment museum and they have no records and gave little help.
