Elsie Hall's birth certificate found. See success stories.
Mary, if I had carried out your suggestion in the first place I would have saved myself a fortune. But I never even thought!
Thank you to all for your suggestions.

Hi Rose,
Thanks for that.
I'm still looking for that scrappy piece of paper which had a record of certificates applied for. I'm not sure if I applied for the reference you gave. I've made a note of it for now.
I'm going to write to the local record office in Newcastle upon tyne and see if they can find her. I've got a birth date and ? parents names and see what comes of it. I've been looking for Elsie for 18 months. She's been very difficult to find.
Oh by the way the one before was also born in Castle Ward district, Newburn Northumberland. She was called Ruth Wilkinson Hall 1905.
Thank you again Janet

I did a search for all Elsies born in Castle Ward in Sept and Dec 1908 and there were only 9.
This was one:
Births Dec 1908 Hall Elsie Castle W. 10b 364
I'm sure you've tried this.

Hi Mary,
I'll do that. Good idea! I know you mentioned local RO earlier but I didn't put 2 and 2 together.
Where have I been! On another planet.
Thanks again Janet

Hi Janet
I would be inclined to send a cheque for £7 with a letter to the local RO for the area, requesting the birth cert for Elsie born 6 Sep 1908, if they can't find it they will return your cheque.

Hi Mary, Kath, Rose and Margaret,
Sorry for delay in replying. I tried to post a message last night but the network was busy so gave up. Hence thought I try again this morning.
Thank you for all your replies.
Mary, I had that thought too! But then dismissed it! I'll keep it in mind.
Kath, the first ref you gave was the first cert I applied for. I was positive it would be the one. To my disappointment it wasn't. As for the second ref I am sure I applied for it too. I have made a note of refs applied for on a small piece of paper (big mistake!!) and now I can't find it. Plus we've been decorating so it might be under a pile of stuff. Will have to have a good look again.
Rose, the child after was Leslie Hall born 7th Sept 1912 Newburn, Northumberland, Castle Ward district. Born to Edward Hall and Elizabeth Wilkinson. Most of the siblings were born in the Castle Ward district. Do you think she was more likely to have been born there?
Margaret, Good point however Elsie's birth date was written 3 times on 3 different sources. Her birth year is written on her grave stone in Canada, which I have a photo of. It was sent by a kind lady on Ancestry. Thank you for the ref. When I find my small piece of paper I'll have a check its not been applied for. I think I stayed with 1908 so haven't done 1906.
Many thanks for all your suggestions. All I can do for now is keep trying different references. Costly business though.
Thanks again Janet
Ps I'm going out again so will reply later.

What about the details of the child born after her? Also, the one born before. Might help narrow down the district.

Is this one of the certificates you have already applied for? :-
Elsie Hall Dec. qtr. Leigh, 8c, 316
If she was born in Newburn, Northumberland then the registration district would be Castle Ward. Have you already applied for this one?:-
Elsie Hall, Dec. qtr. 1908, Castle W., 10b, 364

Just a thought....but are you applying to GRO for her birth cert? I have heard before that sometimes registrations do get lost between the local RO and GRO. As she has been found in the Parish records maybe you would be better off applying to the local RO for her birth cert?

Could someone have lied about their date of birth three times?
I have a birth for Elsie Hall born 6th sept 1908. This has been found on 3 different sources: on a passenger ship list in 1947, from a funeral directors in Canada and from parish records found by someone on Ancestry.
I have looked up a birth reference for Elsie and so far not got a correct birth cert. The passenger list states she was born in Leigh Lancs. But she lived in Newburn Northumberland and was baptised there.
Could her birth have been missed off Ancestry BMD records? I don't need a look up but would welcome more ideas.
Would it be worth broadening the year range rather than sticking to 1908?
This is a continuation of a previous thread 'why can't i find the correct birth certificate?'
(I won't be able to reply immediately but later today. Gotta go to work.)
Any advice welcomed Thank you
Janet
