Martha is Martha Powell and sister to my gggreatgrandmother. I'm not sure what I will find on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and I would have to buy credits. They are all back in Leicester where Martha was born in 1901 but Martha is now a widow. Could someone possibly look up the census return or point me in the best direction to find out as much as I can with regards to any info available (not found the marriage yet), thanks for any help, have not had to look in Scotland before and really appreciate the guidance

You would have to buy 30 credits costing £6 from scotlands people. You then narrow down the search then pay 1 credit to view and 5 credits to see the certificate. Its really good as you get to see the cert straight away not have to wait for the postman like I am at the moment!!

The family were in England in 1891...........Martha is widowed...so the time-span for your search for Harry's death can be narrowed down somewhat..........

If you (click to see others on page), then you'll immediately see their relationship to head and place of birth (wife England + son Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland). To get their occupation and Line #, you'll have to click on each in turn. [If the family crosses a page boundary, you'ld also need to click on someone on the 2nd page then (click to see others on page) for them.] It's useful to see neighbours - they're often rellies. At the bottom of the panel reproduced by Willsy (below the ad) there''ll also be the ref #. The LDS transcription gives: "FHL Film 0203671 GRO Ref Volume 644-11 EnumDist 47 Page 1" so you could also rent a view thru them. The info that isn't on Ancestry is the Marital status (here, the adults are M and the infant is unstated). At least for me, if I print the Ancestry printer friendly version of the page, the item "Page" doesn't print the page # - I don't have a current subscription to Ancestry, but I guess their GRO ref substitues "Govan parish" for "644-11" and gives the line # in place of the page #.

If you see the original image, you can verify the transcriptions - the LDS is generally better than the Ancestry, but not up to the standard of FreeCEN but LDS only has 1881 (on CD) and FreeCEN coverage varies by county and census year ranging from 0% to 100%.

You can go onto ScotlandsPeople and see free examples of the various types of images available (under "What's in the database" - also under "Features" there are wills of famous scots, although there might also be other types of documents there that I've not clicked on),

Elaine,

There's one page (I forget which - or maybe it's all) where you can just hover over say "Harry Cooper" and see occup along with much of the other stuff of your first post in a pop up thingy.
