How can I find out where he came from?

I have my gt grandfather George Patrick Feenan b.1843 in Ireland but I cannot find any information about him. He married in Liverpool in 1872 and it states his father as Bernard but have looked on IGI and there is nothing. How can I find out where he came from? |

Have you looked on all the possible census entries for him JUST in case he puts his home town on there? |

I have him on 1881 and 1901 and it just states Ireland |

Oh, if he were in the Royal navy, have a look on documents on line on the National Archives. I found my OH's GGF's place of birth in Ireland from his naval record. |
