Sounds a bit dodgey doesnt it. If it is nee (that means born) so Hayworth should be the maiden name.

Thanks for all your help. Don't worry, I don't take the submitted records as Gospel! If I can check anything out I do.

I will order one of the certs.

Thanks again,

Vicky

If you can get the birth certs - DO. If she had been married before, they should have both names on.

As Margaret said, don't use submitted records from the IGI, only the extracted ones.

The entry for the marriage on the IGI is a submitted one and not taken from records so you have to be careful to check the information.

I would think the maiden name would be Haywood and on the IGI there is a baptism for a Mary Ann Haywood in February 1798 in Faversham, Kent which could be the one. I had an instance of a Mary A. being put on the census as Maria - I think it is just the way someone might say Mary A. which could sound like Maria.

There are some jumbled submitted records on IGI which refer to her as Maria Reynolds nee Hayworth marrying a Cork. I hope you're not using submitted records for your research!
There is this extracted record, I don't know if it has any bearing on your family since it's in Nottingham:
Mary Haywood married William Reynolds 31 July 1823, Newark upon Trent, Nottingham.

I have found a marriage of my Ancestors on family search:

William Cork marries Maria Reymolds or Nee Haywood on 31/08/1817 in Throwley Kent.

Their first child Catherine, was baptised 3 months later. On nearly all baptisms of their children it says Maria Reynolds or nee Haywood.

Which would be her maiden name? She was born about 1797 so was only about 20 when she married William Cork, she must have married pretty young the 1st time! Can anybody find a 1st marriage for her or give me some advice please. A couple of their children were born after 1837 so I could get a birth cert but would that show both names?

Thanks
