Could someone tell me what the name Bertia would be short for? I have never heard of it.
Many thanks

Could it be Bethia?
I have one in my tree short for Bethsheba I think.

Where did you find it? On a census? If so, it's probably a mistranscription of Bertie.

Thanks to you all for your replies.

The name was found from parish records. Someone looked up siblings for me. Bertia was one of them.

I'll have a look for a birth ref under those names suggested. I couldn't find one for Bertia Hall born 1902 Northumberland.

Thanks again
Janet

Thank you Sylvia for your reply and suggestion.

Jim you beat me to it! I haven't had chance to look but thank you for finding the ref for me. Looks like Bertia was Bertie after all. This family lived in the district of Castle ward so you are probably spot on. Thank you so much.

Once again thanks to all for your replies.
