My OH's gran was sent to an Orphanage when she was very young as her Father had died and her mother couldn't manage---that's all the family know.
I am trying to make sure I have the correct details before I send for her info from the Orphanage.
On her marraige she had her father's name as Joseph. Today I recieved her birth cert and it has Joshua as his name and I think i have the right people.
This sounds complicated I know.

Joseph/Joshua not too far apart and as her dad died when she was very young it may be she was mixed up about his correct name.

Have you tried for her parents marriage cert

second thought if it was her one of her parents who registered the birth then the details should be the same as their marriage cert .Altho saying that, my paternal grans second hubby put her name as Annie on two of the births he registered cos that's what he called her BUT her name was Emma Ann !!

Roughly when was Gran born and where?

It shouldnt be too hard to find his death reg. Send for the death cert and see what name is on that?

She is Sarah Ann Evans born 25 October 1896, Darlington ,Co Durham, Father Joshua Thomas Evans and on her marraige cert on 22 March 1916 her father's name is Joseph Evans deceased.
Her Mother was I think Mary E Evans---formerley Willimas.
The details from the Orphanage are £50 so you can understand why I need to be sure--although hubby's family are chipping in.

Sounds like she made a mistake when giving the details for her marriage. Could you specify both names as possible for her dad when applying for the records

Shirley,I think i will ring them to try and make sure---it's lot of money for the wrong person but feel 99% sure it's them and her!!!

No have just got Sarahs today---Ill have to maybe send for his too,on 1901 census there is a William b c1893 and a John b C 1897.
The names of the boys and Sarah are correct so I just wanted to ask other what they thought.
