When my G G Grandmother got married in 1891 she put her age down as 19 when infact she was only 16, my G G Grandfather had his age as 25 yet when he died 9 years later in 1900 his age has been recorded as 32. Is it possible that he could of been older when he married as i have not yet found him on any census (he could of been away as he was a Seaman). The closest i have come is a Henry with a father William who is a captain being born in 1861 which would of made him 30 when he married

Many Thanks

It's possible they may not have lied about their age, as most people were illiterate in those days they wouldn't know maths either, they may not have known their real age. They would have probably told the person writing the census how old they thought they were, & if that persons maths was poor, different dates could emerge.

Rose,

His name was Henry George Alldridge, I have no birth cert for him just marriage and death. Marriage cert has his father as William Alldridge (Occupation) Captain.

Thanks Shirley but this one is still alive in 1901 and mine had died in 1900. Also my G G Grandmother's father was a carman and the marriage cert definately has William Alldridge - Captain and Frederick Trinder - Carman (Lucy's father)

So he married as Henry Aldridge and died as Henry George Alldridge?

Those spelling issues don't help.

You say that Henry was your g-g-grandfather yet Lucy doesn't seem to have any Alldridge children in 1901.

Ozi, they could have just assumed the older child was Adams because she said he was her son.

Sorry haven't been able to get on the computer for a couple of days.

Portland Rose.... 1901 census...Yes that is the correct Lucy, this is when she remarried to her neighbour Henry Adams and the 1901 census has her 2 children by Henry Alldridge down as Adams, (Henry Frederick 9 on census and Frederick George 10mths (My G Grandfather))

Shirley, 1891 census is correct, this is my G G Grandmother with her family.

Ozibird... Lucy and Henry Alldridge had 3 children by 1900. Henry Frederick 1892, Lucy Rhoda Lavinia 1897-1897 and Frederick George 1900 - 1957,

Henry was a Seaman so it could be possible that he was away for the census, My G Grandfather Frederick was also in the Merchant Navy and his older brother Henry Frederick (Royal Navy), my nan also joined so with Henry's father listed as William Alldridge (Captain) they seem to come from a family of sea lovers. I did manage to find Henry Frederick's Royal Navy records from the National archives hoping it would also have info on his father but only gave me how long he served for and what ships.

Thanks for helping all of you.
