Why can't I find the correct birth certificate?

Update on the quest to find Elsie's birth certificate.

I applied for Elsie Wilkinson born 1908 leigh lancs and it wasn't the one.

I have found out that there was another sibling after Elsie which confirms none of her parents? remarried. They were still together in 1912; that is Edward Hall and Elizabeth Wilkinson.

Continued on another thread. Elsie Hall part 2

Hi everyone,

Rose, Yes that's correct. That is all the family for 1901. Also applied for the birth ref you quoted and again it was wrong parents. I didn' think to look for birth refs for siblings. One sister was called Ruth Wilkinson Hall born 1905 ish.

Gwyn thank you for the marriage reference. I will apply for it. It might hold clues.

Summer, I've heard of that happening to others but never considered it might apply to Elsie. Oddly I found a reference for Elsie Wilkinson born Leigh Lancs ( States on Visa) born Sep 1908. I'm going to apply for it and see. Do you think its worth trying?

Thanks to all of you for replying. You've all given me something to think about. I was getting to the point of tearing my hair out.

Think the marriage Gwen found is correct.

First child was born as Mary Ann Wilkinson. There's no Mary Ann Hall born in Castle Ward c1888.

Maybe wasn't. I didn't think of that one either. Why can't anything be straightforward? Families eh!

Just an idea, but perhaps she wasn't born where she was baptised?

Thank you very much to all for your replies.

Elsie was the youngest of all her siblings. I will have a look at Elsie wilkinson. Could this have been possible? Elsie died in Canada. I have an orbit for her. She died 1952

She was 25 when she married.

I haven't got marriage cert for her parents yet. I got parents names from parish records and Sisters birth cert and sisters marriage cert. Also looked at census

Robert you could be right. I will look into it. Thanks for the idea. It gives another avenue to look at.

Reggie, that's another interesting angle to look at. I will investigate. I applied for the ref you quoted. Again it wasn't the correct parents.

The first sibling was born 1888.

You've all given me something to think about which I'll look into. I've got parents eve so will get back later.

Thanks again
Janet

I need new ideas for this.

I am trying to acquire a birth certificate for Elsie Hall born Sept 1908 Newburn Northumberland. This should place her in the Castle Ward district. I have looked on Ancestry BMD list numerous times and I found 3 Elsie Halls listed for 1908, one for Newcastle Upon Tyne and two for Tynemouth. I applied for each and all 3 proved a negative result i.e. different parents. I even applied for the december 1908 birth, castle ward district but again wrong parents.

Elsie's parents are Edward Hall and Elizabeth Wilkinson.

A kind person on Ancestry found on parish records Elsie and her siblings and her birth and parents for Newburn parish church. Elsie also travelled to Canada and her visa states same birth date and same Father except her birth area was Leigh lancs. I also checked on the BMD references for this area too and again negative result i.e wrong parents.

Elsie's marriage certificate states Edward Hall as father.

Because I have not been able to get a birth certificate for Elsie I am beginning to have my doubts about her. Could it be her parents stated on parish records aren't really her actual parents? Or could it be she was born with a different surname? I am open to ideas here and would welcome a fresh angle on this.

I did apply for her Sisters birth cert and the parents were confirmed as Edward and Elizabeth.

Where am I going wrong?

Janet
