Hello Gail,
Sometimes with the Welsh ones Gail if you just do a Google search for the name of the mine, it will give you an option to view details about the disasters attached to the mines, which in turn will lead to the names of the men killed.
Best regards,

sydenham

If it's Wales I have a really good little book.

Hi Jan
Does your book include anything on the people who had medals awarded to them for saving lives in the Abercarn Disaster?
If it has I would be interested to know what it says about Charles Preen.

Thanks
Julie

ps. sorry for butting in on your thread Gail.

You could try:-

www.blacksheepindex.co.uk

It has some names of people who died in mining, railway and other accidents.

I also apologise for 'butting in'.

Julie, Charles Preen - Collier, awarded a 2nd Class Medal. No other information I'm afraid.

Hi Margaret
Thanks for looking. I think I have everything I can off the internet for Charles Preen and details of the disaster it self, just wondering if a book might include any other more personal info for him.

Thanks

Julie

Here is what I know so far.

John Booth married in 1897 to Mary Ann Whalley. He was 21 she was 20. His occupation was a carter.
By 1918 Mary had remarried but her 1st child to her second partner was born in 1906. I am trying to solve the mystery of what happened to John. Mary and John both came from Farnworth in Bolton. Funny enough so did the 2nd husband.

So far that is all I know.
Thanks everyone.

I have found these in the 1901 census index (I have not got access to the image) maybe someone with ancestry can look for you to make sure they are in same household and see if there are any children etc.

1901 census index
John Booth age 24 born Lancs Farnworth living Lancashire Farnworth occupation Caster Coal

Mary Jane Booth age 24 born Bolton Lancs Lancashire living Farnworth occupation Cotton Cloth Weaver

Have you checked the deaths on freebmd?

Julie

Thank you so much for that.
Just noticed that Mary is down as Mary Jane when she is Mary Ann. Strange.

J Report 13 Oct 2007 18:12

This is the nearest death I can find on Freebmd, although age a few years out. It is an ongoing project though so they have not all been transcribed yet. So if this is the right death I do not know.

Deaths Mar 1918 Booth John H age 38 Bolton 8c 495

I put the wrong Mary down first, see the post after for Mary A Booth.
