Is there anybody in Ireland who could look up the reference numbers for the following births, to enable me to order the relevant certificates?

MARY ELLEN MURPHY 1878/79 OFFALY ?

ANN JANE MURPHY 1888/89 OFFALY ?

ELIZABETH MURPHY 1897/99 OFFALY ?

PATRICIA P BROWN 1926/28 UNKNOWN

A huge thank you to anyone who can help as this Irish side has posed "A Huge Brick Wall" for many years, unfortunatley all relatives who could have helped have passed away.

Regards
Sally

You don't necessarily need the references to order certs in Eire. In any event you can only search the register personally and have to pay to do so.

Have a look at the website for more info.

Hi Sally

You can order birth certificates from the Irish GRO...with only an approx year of birth.

BUT you would need the parent's names and County of Birth, as you can appreciate... Murphy and Brown are very common names.

I've ordered several certificates with only approx year of birth and marriages..but I did know which County..... and they managed to find the records and send the certificates.

Have you searched for them on Ancestry.com?

I've posted messages on there and found several second cousins (on my Irish side) that way.

If you know the parents names you can search for them on other family trees too.

Hi Teresa,

Thanks for that info, I know the fathers name for the Murphy certs but not the mothers and only a suspsion (Offaly) on the county.

For the Brown cert I know father and mothers names but no idea of county (they were only there for 3 years due to work) and try as I might I cannot remember the exact details I was told ......err.....about 40 odd years ago!!

Do you think if I complete the app form as far as I can and write a nice letter to the people at GRO they would help?

Yes have tried every thing else for Murphy's to no avail, the Browns are not Irish, they come from Kent but I know Patricia born Ireland, so apart from her have everything back to 1799.

Thanks so much for your help

Hi again Sally

I found this on www.familysearch.org/
IGI record, under Ireland Co. Offlay.

MARY ELLEN MURPHY
Birth: 27 Aug 1878 ...Offlay
Parents: Timothy Murphy & Luch Graham

No trace of any other siblings though.

Never heard of the name Luch...unless it's a transcription error...or the original record was difficult to read.

No guarentee that this is your Mary Ellen Murphy, of course....but you could order the birth certificate from the Irish GRO anyway.

Hi Sally
You might find something on the data bases (Baptisms, marriages + burial registers)on the Dublin Heritage .web site.(FREE)

Hi Teresa,

Yep I too found that on the IGI and from marriage and death dates it looks promising. I think Luch could be Lucy and it is a family name. I just didn't want to go in all guns blazing and find its not corect.

Thanks Sally
