Hi Mike,
Thanks for your kind offer of help, one good thing is the surname is Greasley and there are not many of them. Dates are a little of a problem, I am trying to find information on George Greasley, he died in 1862 approx and census records have him as being born in 1781, but i know for a fact that he joined the 29th Regiment of Foot in July of 1797 at Chatham, he would have had to be 18 years old to Joined which means he would have had to be born 1779, at that time Napoleon was massing his great army, so i guess our army were not to fussed about age just needing men in numbers. He served almost 22 years in the army discharged in 1819. He married Ann date unknown he did have 4 children George 1827/8 Sarah 1829, John 1831 and William 1835.
How soon after he marrried and had his first child i don't know.
He was at this point in time a frame work knitter he joined the army as a frame work knitter.
He could read and write.
Any information you can find would be a great boost for me.
Many Thanks Geoff Greasley
