Hi, some of my ancestors emigrated to Australia in the 1840-60's.I have some info on the boats that they travelled on but have no confirmation of this. Can anyone tell me where i can find passesnger lists to Australia as early as the 1840's.

Which part of the country did they emigrate from?

you can search by name and name of ship.

Hi Nicola

If you feel the info is a bit vague, why don't you try the NSW or QLd or VIc BDM indexes on-line ? with all three you can specify parents names for deaths, which narrows the field. NSW and QLD are free to search, Vic will tell you how many results but it costs to look at them (but if you get 0 hits, you know you're in the wrong state).

When you get some hits, you can go the assisted migrant indexes - most list both surname and christian name - and the microfilms of the actual journals often lists "parents and where living" which has set me off on the right road a few times.

Hi all, I find these url's wonderful, but I am not very conversant with Australia so could someone in Oz or here tell me which one I should use for Adelaide, if that is South Australia.
