You just have to trawl through the complete death index looking for his name with an age that would correspond at the time to his date of birth. If you have an idea of where he died it is a help, otherwise it is just a matter of finding a name and age that fits. It is easier with a more unusual name - John Smith would be a bit of a nightmare!! |

Well, you need to narrow down the period. Obviously its unlikely he would be over 100 when he died, so that narrows it down and so on. If you gave us some solid details of what you DO know then we may be able to help. |

There is this death on the partially transcribed index. The year of birth is about right, but I don't know how you could tell if it was "your" Amos. |
