My greatfather was born on 3 Nov 1892 but his birth does not appear to be registered and so i am unable to trace birth certificate and therefore am unable to proceed. can anyone suggest where I may look for the registration.

Have you looked on the full listings on Ancestry for Dec Q 1892 and Mar Q 1893?

How do you know his date of birth?

(I'm having a similar problem with my grandfather so I do understand but we need to know where you've looked, what you've tried and how you know what you know.)

It might be worth looking at a Local RO if it's one of those willing to help genealogists. There are a number of Local RO BMD sites - have a look on www.ukbmd.org.uk for a list.

If you strike lucky, you have to use their refs, because the GRO refs are meaningless to them - though the quarterly breakdown can be useful to narrow the field.
