I did the least, so I'll say "you're welcome" from all of us.

I'd meant to ask -- you mentioned the emigrations to Canada and having a contact to find records there. If I can help at all with access to censuses and bmds, let me know! (I'm going to be buried with work once Parliament resumes here next week, but I'm always up for a little procrastination ...)

The bigamist was Henry Wallace, he apparently had another wife and two boys somewhere else in london, and because the neighbours were talking about my G/Grandmother and her illegitimate child.
she was married before to John willis nutting who died of TB, i have the details on this.

Tamara Report 8 Oct 2007 08:49

Thankyou for your help this is wonderfull, Henry Wallace's age on Marriage cert. 34 and Mary janes is 44, they both have widower in the conditions box, but family talk said my grandfather never knew his father becasue of the other marriage G/Nan apparently was in court for it, thats why in the 60's he changed his name to Nutting.

WOW ! all this help i need a few days to plough through it, i'm glad i have a contact in Canada as my G/Grandmothers fist marriage to John Nutting, the children from this marriage emigrated to Canada so i'm trying to sort them on the side of this. But the above on wallace looks promising and he's the one i have no info on as it was said he was the bigamist.

The other thing is that the bride's name is Nutting but you say it says her father's name in Mullings. Is this right?
I looked at the marriage entry and it does say Mary Jane Nutting and not Mullings.

Who is the one supposed to have committed bigamy?

does it say how old the bride and groom are on the marriage certificate?

That could give us a clue as to how far back to go looking at censuses, or possible first marriage.

Hi Tamara
The marriage cert should have the name of the fathers and occupations. ...and place......then you can look in the censuses...I am hoping this is before 1901....
Give us the details and we'll look....

Put the details here - both names - names of fathers - names of witnesses - when and where the marriage took place and see if anyone can find anything for you.

If it was a bigamous marriage there may well have been a newspaper report at the time. (I found one of mine in the Times - but it was back in 1869 and I don't think they had a lot of news that day!)
