When I was searching for my husband's great grandfather who was born in Northumberland in 1828, I spent a whole afternoon looking through parish records at the county record office, only to be told as I was leaving that a lot of people in Northumberland were non-conformist and that I might find his baptism in the non-conformist records which are separate from parish records. |
