Please could some kind person look up a death for me for Eli Purchase, born at Medstead, Hants in 1828. I have checked BMD and LDS but there are no matches. I have also looked for Elias as I think this may have been his full name. He was a farm bailiff at Lasham on the 1881 census. Here's hoping ......

Haven't yet found a death for him, but he's on both 1891/1901 census.
1891 he's at Church farm, Lasham with
Elizabeth wife
Asrthur son
Ernest J son
Frank son.
Still farm bailiff

on 1901 he's living with Ernest and his family at
Benworth Hall Stables in Bentworth.
Living on own means.

Thanks Jane, I have all that, but cannot find a death. I suppose I will have to go the record office ? Not easy for me.

I have found this, but it's registered in Hambledon, Surrey in 1906.
Eli Purchane 1828-1906 july qtr.

On 1841 he's Eli Purchan....and his marriage to Betsey is Purchas.
What do you think?

Well he was married to Betsey Rothwell.. Strange, but that could be it I suppose,probably mis transcribed . Have you got any numbers, so I could get a certificate please ?

Have been having a look to see if any of the other children were in the Surrey area.

Arthur was in Dorset
Frank was in Islington.
Haven't got the girls yet.

Mary Jane Purchase married George Webber and on 1891 they are living in Hambledon, Surrey!!
Perhaps Eli was staying with them?

Oh Jane thats wonderful, thanks so much. My biggest mystery is Frank, have been searching for years for his death too. I thank you for finding him in Islington. Would you be able to find his death too, or am I being greedy and taking too much of your time.

Frank Purchess born 1874 Alton, Hants boarder occ; railway porter.
Living in the home of Edmund E Watkins (also railway porter) and family.
Haven't found a death, but there is this possible marriage in oct qtr 1915 St Martin, London to Alice B Pateman (1a 1634).

Thanks for that. I hope that is Frank. I had been told that Frank had been killed in an accident in London when young,but haven't been able to find that out for certain. Think I may have to get a certificate for this to be sure. He was in agriculture previously, but maybe he had a change.

1881 they're in Lewisham
1891 they're in Weston, Somerset
1901 they're in Lee, London.

Jane, you are a star. I'm very grateful. Its difficult to find out what happens to them all after the 1901 census. You have filled in a few gaps for me, thanks.

Cant find any deaths for Frank Purchase in London.

So it rather looks like Frank moved right away somewhere else or didnt die until a lot later. The mystery continues for the time being.

This is the only death I can find that fits as all the others were children, or different Franks who were born elsewhere and on other census.
Frank Purchase apr qtr 1955 Honiton, Devon aged 83 (7a 434).

There's no guarantee that's him though and other than trawl every quarter and every year from 1901 I wouldn't be 100% convinced it's him.

Thanks, I also, am doubtful about this one as I know there is a large group of Purchase's in Somerset/Devon and as yet have not found any connections with them, other than that Arthur lived there for a time. Thanks for all your efforts.
