Hi
I am working up to a trip to my local library (bolton) to try and find out more about my family dating around 1880-1920.
What sort of info could I get there and where do I start?
I'm really quite nervous about looking a right fool or it being a complete waste of time (or both!!)

Any tips would be really gratefully received
Thanks
Nicola

Have you checked out their website which should give you an idea of the records they hold?

Other people don't seem to mind the odd squeal of excitement when you find something.

Take a pencil - they don't like pens. Make a note of what you've looked at - so you know where to go if you want to check something and you know what not to look at again!

If your names are a bit unusual - or not too common - and they're in one area - try and make a note of all mentions of that name as they may be relatives.

Have fun.
