Hi Vicky,

As Woody said, sometimes very little is revealed. I downloaded a marriage in Glasgow in 1817 and was very disappointed, absolutely nothing.

Ah well you win some & loose some, and it is good to have the hard copy for your records.

thanks woody. this awkward old devil is just on the border for deaths - between 1851 and 1861 census, and of course I cann't find him recorded anywhere. will keep on looking but in the meantime - I know I am going to have to buy the cert, as you say, just to have it in the records. thanks for your help

Probably not a lot, Vicky.
Most likely - XX lawful son of YY and his spouse ZZ - and sometimes the mother's name doesn't even get recorded.
That said you will get a list of baptisms and if you're lucky there might be more from the same family.
Sometimes it will say the father's occupation (like farmer at ?? or such like) but that's seldom.
Nice to have it though.

Just thought - if he/she was still living after 1855 you may get more info from the death certificate - providing the informant knew the details.

I have found my reli's birth/baptism on Scotlands people for 1792. It is definately him, but does anyone know what kind of info would be given if I use credits to download the image?

thanks for any suggestions
