I have just recd a marriage cert for a marriage that took place in 1847, it records the bride as a widow, but no maiden name or name of father. Any ideas as to why?? |

She was probably illegitimate and didn't know her father. |

And if it was quite an early registration, maybe whoever filled the certificate out thought it was sufficient just to put the bride's first rname down. Maybe they didn't understand how to do it properly. |
