Genealogy Chat

Bought this as advertisement on Rootschat and I don't know how it works. I put the disc in my tower, green light flashes but nothing happens, what should come up? Has anyone used this, though it would come up like a Family Tree that I could complete but nothing.

Hi Betty, this may be a silly question, but as this is a suite, I take it there is more then one disk, are you sure you are putting the correct disk into the computer?

I don't usually use discs, just my grandson puts them in to play games sometimes.

There is only one disc and as I say it is advertised by someone on Rootschat. When I put it in the tower there is a green light that flashes but nothing comes up on the screen. Please don't tell me I am ment to buy a whole set of discs am I.

No probably not Betty, but there may not be an auto run file on the disk. If you right click on "My Computer" on the desk top, click explore and look for the cd name in the drive, click on that and there may be a setup file there, click that if there is.

Do I have to put the disc into the tower while I am doing this? Or do I just just leave it out just now.

Sorry as I said never used a disc before!!

Hi again Betty, yes you do need the disk in the tower, then as I said right click "My computer" and see if there is a setup or installation file on the disk. If there is you need to click on it to run it. If there is a file with the suffix .exe that may be it.

When I went into My Computer there isn't an Explore bit there to click on.

Betty, you need to right click it on the desktop then click explore.

I just went onto that and suddenly up pops CYNFAMILYTREEG5(D:)

What does that mean??

No Betty its not running, if you click on CYNFAMILYTREEG5(D:) that will show you the list of files on the cd, if you cannot find a file called setup.exe or another exe file, look for a help file or readme file.

This is awful, wish I had never bought or started the dammed thing.

Anyway it comes up with Family Tree Gegealogy Suite, then run, then Register Product, then Exit, then Help and Visit Website.

None of the above work when you click on them.

try putting in disk wait a mo... then go to my computer and then doubleclick on the drive where the disk is

sometimes it run automatically after this.. or look up for set up icon and click on that.

Put CD into tower. Wait a minute, Double click on My Computer, right click on the icon that shows the CD, left click on Explore, a window will open that shows you the files on the disk Look for a file that says Setup.exe, double click it.
