It is difficult. You need to find the last time you knew for certain that he was alive, like on the census or the birth of his last child or when he was a witness at a wedding. |

If he had any sons involved in WW1 then you might find mention of them (and thereby mention of your G Gdad) either at the Commonwealth War Graves Commision site which is free online (thats if they died) or if they survived they may be mentioned in the WW1 Army Pensions records which are available to Ancestry Users. |
