Sarah Spriggs marries joseph Hague
Joseph dies and as the family secret is born out my grandmother is illegitimate -supposedly a travelling sales man from scotland/ ireland hence the red hair in the family.
She then marries John Henry Hudson
And the rest is history plenty for me to look at

Do you suppose that Sarah and Joseph had a daughter Sarah, and the children were hers? The name Joseph on Nellie's marriage certificate could have referred to her grandfather; this was not uncommon in the case of children of single mothers.

Oh duh. That household is on Dodsworth Street. I think we have found the key, if not the solution, to your mystery.

I have to go get ready for lunch with the long-lost cousin who is in town doing research, my first meet with a family member found through GR! So I'll leave you with that tantalizing bit for now. ;)

Now i am confused!!!
I have had Hudson in my tree as the surname and just deleted them all cos i was convinced it was hague. The Hudson thing is, on reflection correct as my gradma's brother thought his own mothers name was either Hudson or Haigh? as he remembered going to see 'mother Hudson' as a kid she was apparently quite wealthy and had a boarding house in Swinton. The rumour has always been that my great gran was illigitimate, so i am still confused

do you know when her mother was born,

as my ggranmother married as sarah but her birth name was louisa???? work that out i had great trouble finding her,

so if we find her mother and comfirm her name we might be able to find them on the census

I have my great grandmothers marriage and birth certificates.
My problem is locating her anywhere on the census or indeed any records after her birth.
She was named Nellie Christiana Short Hague born april 1893.
Mothers name Sarah Hague (address 36 Dodworth st Mexborough at time of registration). There is no father on birth certificate.
On the marriage certificate (April 1913) he is named as Joseph Hague (deceased loco fireman).
Any Nellie hagues i find do not have Sarah as the mother.
Can anyone please help with identifying her parents.
It is my understanding she had sisters Clarice and Ethel no luck finding them either.
Any help would be appreciated
