I have the admittance entry for my g grandfather to a childrens' home in 1875 when he was 10 years old. |

Alison, all I can suggest is that you get in touch with the local history assoc. for the area of the children's home. They may know. |

I'm not sure whether children's homes were the same as industrial schools, but when a child was in an industrial school they could be sent out into employment or into an apprenticeship and they would be sent out "on licence". |
