Details marriage.

Could someone please help me with finding the marriage of my Grandmother Elizabeth Stell formerly Park she married a 2nd time after my Grandfather Thomas Stell died in 1913. Elizabeth and Thomas married in Gateshead where he also died.

Her 2nd husband was Joseph Ford and they had a daughter, Elizabeth Ford born in Gateshead in 1917. They must, therefore, have been married somewhere between 1913 and 1917. I have daughter Elizabeths' Birth Certificate which gives her parents as Joseph Ford and Elizabeth Ford late Stell formerly Park.

I am having great difficulty with finding details of this marriage so that I can order the certificate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

that was the time of the war,

so if joesph was in the army they could of got married anywhere, if they got married at all

Thanks Julie and Mellie for your replies.

I know that they married as in my fathers old Soldiers Book (he fought in WW11) his next of kin was Mrs. Elizabeth Ford - Mother.

Could you also please tell me how would be the best way to find out if Joseph was in the First World War.

you can look on the naional archives.gov.uk

they have all he records there

because she called herself Mrs, doesn't mean that they were married.

Your father may not have known otherwise .................. so this is not PROOF.


We are all finding that our ancestors did not always get married .................... living common law was almost as common with them as it is these days.

The major difference is that our ancestors kept the situation more secret ....... so the women called themsleves Mrs.
