I can't find hide nor hair of my great grandfather. On my grandparents marriage certificate his name is Edward Chapman, there is a middle name whick looks like Baker but certainly begins with B. My grandparents married in 1926 and divorced during the war. I know nothing at all about my grandfathers family. Where can I look next? Has anyone got any ideas please?
Thanks
Irene

Two possible births....

Edward Baker Chapman 1892 Jul-Aug-Sep Salford Greater Manchester, Lancashire

Edward Baker Chapman 1896 Jan-Feb-Mar Salford Greater Manchester, Lancashire

Scrub those.....these are the deaths which match

Edward Baker Chapman abt 1892 1892 Jul-Aug-Sep Salford Greater Manchester, Lancashire

Edward Baker Chapman abt 1896 1896 Jul-Aug-Sep Salford Greater Manchester, Lancashire

If you have the marriage cert, you must have his declared age at the time.....plus his father's name and occupation...........

That info should help with tracing him........and his antecedents

I have looked at the relevent census but think I might have to wait for the 1911 one to come out

Now we know we're looking for Henry's family...........did he have a second forename?

That didn't progress things..........no birth anywhere for a Henry William Chapman in 1903/4.

Had hoped to find a birth reg'n.........

Next possibility is that he was registered under his mother's surname........

Aha! I hadn't thought about that. If that was the case would he then have been adopted by Edward after his mother married? Either way it's of no help because I don't know his mothers name........ Unless it was Baker! No good though there must be hundreds of Edward bakers.
Now I really don't know what to do.
