If you go to freebmd there is normally a free 14 day trial offered at the top of the page for ancestry. You do have to put in your credit card details but they are very good and you can cancel before the 14 days is up - they have a freefone number and are always very helpful.

Have a go at the freebie - use this link or just google ancestry.co.uk offers

http://landing.ancestry.co.uk/uki/county.aspx?

If there are no discount offers at the mo - which is surprising - register with quidco.com/ and use the link on there to ancestry - you will get 15% back.

Honestly it may seem a lot but when you consider how much you get on there and things like WW1 pension records which you can download for free, then it really is a bargain - the units soon add up and you will never keep on going when you think you may have a clue because of the cost. With ancestry once you pay the sub, everything is free, you can sit on there 24 hours a day and pay no more.

Christine, if you havent any other subs I would urge you to spend your money on ancestry - for about £80 a year, less if you google for 20% discount offers - you get SO much more. All the census 1841-1901, the full bmds, military records, parish records, Pallots - so much more stuff on there and available 24/7 for the sub, not credits.

You can get a free 14 days trial - google for one or check out Lost Cousins to see if they have the discounted sub.

i use family relitaive, i got the year so i find it handy and fast 1866-1920 and 1984- 2005 the rest of the years you have to search page by page. and the census part of it isn't up and running properly yet but it is good (and one of the cheapest)

Hi, I loved familyrelatives.org for the 1866-1920 bmd period which is totally name searchable.

Have a look on the site to see what they have.

They have a new facility where you can add a profile with your name interests etc.

They do have some military records and overseas records.

Has anyone tried this and is it worth the money?

e.g. is there likely to be information that's not on other BMD sites?
