Finding marriages about 1800 and before Help pleas

Any tips about finding details of a marriage. When did mothers maiden name get entered onto birth certificates? I am hoping this may just be of help from the next generation and then work back.I know fathers name and approx date of marriage. Any other ideas? |

MMN was on certs from the beginning........late 1837 onwards. |

Mother's maiden name was added to the birth index in the September qtr. of 1911 and was on certificates from registration in 1837. |

I have the BVRI discs and sometimes they're a wealth of information. I came across a christening record yesterday that had not only the parents' names but also the father's father, father's mother, mother's father and mother's mother! |
