GRO certificate ordering

All the certs I have ordered so far have been sent in A4 envelopes but I have never received any of them in mint condition. They always arrive damaged by the elastic bands the postie puts round the mail to hold it together. I think something as important as a certificate should be sent out in a stiff backed envelope. I would be happy to pay a bit more for postage if they used those.

I received a cert from Chelsea this morning and it came in the A4 envelope. Perhaps we should get up a petition to the Registrar General to get them sent out A4 surely we're entitled to have them in mint condition as far as possible and NOT folded.

I have just received 4 certs today. I ordered them via the GRO site online and they came folded in a small envelope. The most important info that I needed of one of them is right on the fold and I can decypher it. I am just about to try and iron it out.

I find if i order them over the net they come in the big

I vaguely remember this happening before, when some people were ordering more than 1, some were folded some weren't, and they were told because of cost they will eventually all be folded

Just received the latest certificates I ordered.they came FOLDED in A5 size envelopes.

I have contacted GRO was told that they have changed back to using the Royal Mail and because of their pricing policy ALL certifcates ordered are now being sent out this way and they have no plans to enable cetificates to be sent out unfolded.

I have told them they should change back to the previous method of posting and be ready for plenty more conplaints from family historians if they don't.
